I find a really easy way is to just create a second user on my system i.e. I
have a 'dtgit' user for installing and running the git version. This gives me
guaranteed separate databases etc. without having to use my brain.

Please don't do that! In general that might work, but there are no guarantees
whatsoever that an old version of darktable can work with a new database
format. And there have been a bunch of database related changes recently in
master. So if you want to run two versions in parallel you should give them
completely unrelated config directories (and probably don't import the same
image in both versions).

Tobias

I didn't know that. Thanks for the advice [cid:[email protected]]
