a couple of things to check:
- what's your `max size'? larger or smaller than your screen resolution?
- what are your interpolation settings in preferences? lanczos3?
- what's your demosaic setting in prefs? are you always using demosaicing
or do you allow half size raws for thumbnails?
there are no related changes in any recent release i'm aware of.
