I'm on vacation now ;)
Once I'll return, I will consider writing a full presets management application. The application will store data in a new database, where backups and samples could be stored. It will let you compare, append, update and remove presets data between different darktable's databases. There is a need for GUI for such application, so it will have some pre-requisites (which I tried to avoid with my simple script)

Yes, rsyncing the full database is straightforward, but the situation is more 
complex when you want to share/backup/restore presets but not images. Keeping 
the preset data in a separate file would be good. Being able to import/export 
them in a manner similar to styles would be a nice bonus. :)
