Don't know what you are talking about. I'm using GNU/Debian with the
proprietary driver (installed using nvidia-kernel-dkms package) and I
have an accelerated X (GNOME Shell here) and OpenCL available for
darktable. I have no issue with color management, I have used a
ColorMunki and a Spider devices, no issue.

And the situation above is true for me since at least 5 years!
