There are some misunderstandings on your side I guess:

- darktable doesn't use the system's libraw at all. So updating that has no 
effect whatsoever on darktable.

- If we updated the version of libraw shipped with darktable to something that 
supported X-Trans sensors it wouldn't change a thing in the support of those 
cameras since libraw is only used to peel the raw pixels out of the file (plus 
some unrelated things), but since the layout of the color channels in these 
files are completely different to regular Bayer raws the processing pipeline of 
darktable couldn't do anything useful with those values.

- darktable uses libraw only as its emergency fallback option for formats not 
supported by rawspeed.

That being said, we hope to update our copy of rawspeed to something 
supporting X-Trans soonish. This will also just do the boring work of taking 
the raw values out of the file. The other half of the needed changes is that 
darktable needs to learn how to work with those pixel layouts. Both parts are 
currently being worked on, so it might be part of the next release (which will 
still take several months I guess).
