Hi,

I have noticed that my display shows some color banding in
certain situations. Especially images with soft color patterns and a
light source in frame, like evening skies with a low-hanging sun, may
show this, for example in the area around the sun. The
exported images look fine on other displays.

As I understand, this may be caused by the wide gamut of color I am
using (AdobeRGB on a LG27EA83 display), and the limited number of tones
that can be represented in a common 8bit color channel (24bpp mode). The
color resolution gets more coarse as the area to be covered gets
bigger. The solution seems to be switching from 8bit to 10bit
representation per color channel. Monitor and graphics card are
connected via DV and should support this.

Is anybody on this list using darktable in a 30bit setup? It seems like
GNOME doesn't support 30bit, but KDE does, right? Are the darktable
menus usable in 30bit, even if they are using GTK?

Thanks
Michael
