Hi,

I've uploaded a couple of files to
http://tech.kovacs-telekes.org/files/DSC_4684/

DSC_4684.NEF is an image where a guy wears a wig (it was a fun 'retro
disco' party). No matter what I do, I can't restore the highlights on
the blown parts.
DSC_4684-rt-denoise-on.jpg shows what RawTherapee did. (-off is the
same, without its denoising turned on)
DSC_4684.jpg is my best darktable result, but I had to cheat and use
'colorize' on the blown out part to add colour.
Any advice is much appreciated.

Now, as to the potential bug:
I opened the file again, cleared all modules except for those shown
(those that can't be disabled + exposure and orientation), applied a
-1EV correction.
http://tech.kovacs-telekes.org/files/DSC_4684/samplers1.jpg shows two
'live' colour samplers (area, Lab mean). The blown-out part has a
lower L value than the other, darker part.
Switching from 'reconstruct color' (samplers1) to 'clip highlights'
changes the image dramatically, but the displayed samplers remain the
same. It seems to me that the highlight sampler shows the 'clip
highlights' value, as it has a purplish tint.
You can see something similar if you open the tone curve tool:
sampling inside the clipped highlight will give you an L value around
76, and inside the darker path around 80.

Cheers,
Kofa
