Heureka. I've found the cause for my problem with DT 1.6.3. It's the Lens correction module. Whenever I try to change one of the TCA correction parameters DT crashes, regardless of actual lens.
So my problem with DT 1.6.3 is easily explained. When I imported cr2 sidecar files, DT inevitably encountered some with lens TCA correction parameters ... and crashed. The openSUSE DT1.6.3 packages *are* clean and they *can* use 1.4.2 library.db, but for the lens correction module.
