My 6-core i9, openSUSE linux, darktable-1.7.0.1434033150.e78a048, takes >3
seconds on some images, 6000x4000 raw and 36GB system memory.  I have no
idea what jpgs would entail but most likely faster.  I would say you were
wasting Dt's abilities on jpg's, but that's just my opinion.

More cores, SSD drives, faster video with more memory, ....

There always exists a quest for more horse-power and related speed.
