I suffer from the same problem, running 1.6.7 on Mac OS 10.10.4. However, my issue seems to be compounded - when in the “5 across” grid view, 4 thumbnails, out of maybe 20, constantly regenerate. I seem to have addressed the issue when I changed over to a “6 across” view. Nevertheless, after operating for 5 or so minutes, darktable hangs. I must do a Force Quit of the program before the Spinning Beachball of Death deflates.
