I would say most of your problems stem from using different versions of darktable with the same library.db. The library databases are not the same for different versions of dt. 1.2 can upgrade to 1.4 and 1.4 to 1.6, but you cannot go the other way, 1.6 to 1.4. Different cameras and lensesare supported in different versions of dt, perhaps the problem you are having with white balance, lenses and modules. Also, you will see skulls for images that are not at the same location in the library database as on your hard-drive. If you move or delete images with any other means that using dt, it's database doesn't know where the images are and displays a skull.
