I just figured it out, it was a dumb mistake on my part.

I was reading straight off EXIF:GPSLatitude/EXIF:GPSLongitude, I didn’t
notice that I needed to account for EXIF:GPSLatitudeRef and
EXIF:GPSLongitudeRef (not used to doing it that way, I was just
expecting, for instance, to get -83.4 rather than 83.4 N).

Anyway, accounting for that everything is working as expected now.
