I guess a Lua solution would be possible once we have proper access to module 
settings from Lua (that's currently work in progress and not complete). Once 
that is done there could be a script that hooks into export, takes the crop 
settings, resets them to contain the whole image, lets darktable export, and 
then stores the settings inside the exported image's metadata.

There are some things to check though: what happens to modules that come after 
crop&rotate and that rely on image coordinates (for example watermark) or 
border which adds something to the outside. Also vignettes would behave 
differently I guess.

No worries there, once it's possible I guess we will write such a script for 
you so you just have to use it. Unless we forget it. ;-)
