Saturday, I attempted an upgrade from openSUSE 13.2 to openSUSE Tumbleweed,
which employs Darktable 1.6.8 instead of the 1.4.2 that 13.2 uses. The
upgrade wasn't a good fit so I rolled back to 13.2.

The upgrade installed 'over' my existing Darktable .cache and .config
directories/files.

Back in 13.2, I now find that I can't launch Darktable, getting the
following error:

$ darktable
[init] error: can't open new database schema
ERROR : cannot open database

I suspect this is because I (may have) launched darktable while in my
Tumbleweed install and the database was converted to a version than my 13.2
based Darktable (version darktable-1.4.2-2.2.7) can't support.

Sound reasonable or might there be something else going on?

Thanks.
