I think it's normal : to take photos with an exposure higher than 30 s., one 
has to
set the camera to Bulb mode, then use an external shutter controller to set the
exposure time (or manually keep the trigger depressed...).
One way to do this from DT would to let a menu appear when exposure is set to
65535/65535 (=bulb), in which one could set the time.
Note that this menu could be located in the same place as Interval and 
Bracketting.
