I don't know what it is built against. It comes from Pascal's PPA: Version
1:2.0.0-0pmjdebruijn1~trusty and in Synaptic I can see that libtiff5 is one
of the dependencies.

Is your copy of darktable not built against libtiff?

That just gives  " ldd: ./whereis darktable: no such file or catatalog".
