FWIW, I don't think my monitor calibration has anything to do with it,
even the noise reduction was not properly applied to the exported
image.

Also, I am using darktable 2.0.0 downloaded/built/installed from
darktable's sourceforge page, I'm not using any distribution packed
binary.
