Talking about multi-dimensional, have a look at the next 
killer database: Cache, from InterSystems.
Post relational object.   Claimed to run between 20-100 times
faster than Oracle/Sybase.  massively smart.

"ADO hierarchial record sets" are (as I understand it) just a way of
transporting the data to the client, rather than a way of storing the data
in a database.

These aren't the equivalent of Pick's "Post-Relational" Multi-value fields,
for example.
