As far as connectivity goes, ADO seems to be the favoured option at the moment and given that it's going to be included in future windows releases, it seems the sensible thing to do. We are evaluating it currently and will most likely switch next year. As for back end, I still think it's hard to beat Interbase for reliability (and therefore price) but MSDE is another option worth considering - one of our main systems will probably use it (extrenal supplier). There are other low end systems around such as Apollo C/S, Advantage, various Linux solutions etc etc. My feeling is that the database is critical and you should put some money into a reputable platform that's been around for a while and is able to handle what you want to do, with room to spare. There will never be a perfect solution, just good ones and not so good ones. For us Interbase if pretty close to perfect. >From: "Steven Wild" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >To: Multiple recipients of list database <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Subject: [DUG-DB]: Alternatives to BDE >Date: Thu, 30 Sep 1999 17:59:47 +1200 > >Sorry about this but to briefly revive an old discussion, what are the >reasonable alternatives to the BDE for DBFs. > >Yes I will go and look at the web sites but what do people currently >recommend? > >Steven >Steven Wild >Director >Wild Software Ltd >P O Box 33-216 >Christchurch, NZ >Ph & Fax 64 3 377-0495 > _______________________ > > Chreos Business Systems > _______________________ >--------------------------------------------------------------------------- > New Zealand Delphi Users group - Database List - [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Website: http://www.delphi.org.nz > ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Zealand Delphi Users group - Database List - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Website: http://www.delphi.org.nz
