The plan is to remove all PostgreSQL packages from Solaris (for the .Next release). So
going forward, PostgreSQL will no longer be bundled with Solaris. We will continue to
build & upload Solaris tar balls to the community download website and this will
become the preferred/recommended source of PostgreSQL for Solaris .Next &
OpenSolaris.

Unsurprisingly, the acquisition of MySQL and then the acquisition by Oracle changed the
business strategy for both databases in Sun and Solaris. But the very different product
development processes & life cycles also made it difficult to ship & maintain
PostgreSQL *as part of* Solaris.

Note that there are no plans to change Solaris 10 - It will continue to include
PostgreSQL 8.1, 8.2 & 8.3 until it's End Of Life.

Hi,

While looking at the list of PSARC cases at
http://arc.opensolaris.org/caselog/PSARC/2010/, I noticed the following
case:

PSARC/2010/216 EOF of PostgreSQL 8.3 and 8.4 (and associated additions)
in Solaris

Seeing as 8.4 is the current production version of PostgreSQL, does this
mean PostgreSQL will be fully removed from (open)solaris (if approved),
or will these versions only be removed once 9.0 has been released and
packaged?
