Hmm good question ... As far as I know we do not explicitly ask the database to 
start any transactions. The JDBC-ODBC driver is kinda odd in many ways and 
often hard to figure out. What kind of database is configured at the ODBC layer?

I might be wrong though, and it would help if you can provide the stack trace 
that is in the details of the error message.
