A quick update following on from Dirkjan's message: good progress is being made with JRuby support. All specs are passing (except for a small handful pending) for MySQL and Derby, with SQLite3 support next up. That said, running specs is different from real-world usage so I hope to get the DataMapper specs, as well as some simple DM-based apps working this week.
However, we'd still love to get people to help with the task - submitting patches, or testing the code.
