Hey guys, The discussions in the #datamapper channel on irc.freenode.net are a really great source of information on all things datamapper. Lots of questions get asked, lots of them get answered. That made me think that all this good stuff shouldn't be lost, instead, google should be able to index it. Now http://irclogger.com already does the logging, and google of course indexes that, but the problem with reading IRC logs is all the noise in between the stuff that interests you when you search for something particular.
So I went ahead and wrote a little irc bot that lets you post content you consider interesting to http://alfred.datamapper.org You can post tips or notes, ask questions, reply to all kinds of posts, and you can "remember" conversations that you found interesting and filter them by participating users. You can also tag all these kinds of posts, so they are easier to find later on the website. Have a look at http://alfred.datamapper.org/commands for a detailed explanation on how to interact with alfred. You can also follow alfredbutler on twitter! Alfred tweets a link to the posted content, whenever an IRC user posts something. The main thing though is that everyone can browse these posts online at http://alfred.datamapper.org and google can index them. While of course everyone is invited to post stuff or ask questions using alfred, I'd rather assume that some people will act as some kind of archivers and will try to cover frequently asked questions with either tips or answers to questions. The ultimate goal is to provide a kind of dynamic FAQ for datamapper that is useful on its own, and can be used as a basis to write more in depth articles or other forms of documentation for datamapper. There is already quite some interesting stuff on the website, and it's bound to grow more and more as things are being discussed and questions get asked and answered.
