Your issue could be related to open dependencies of some of the gems.

Requiring one gem without explicitly indicating the version will
always require the lastest.

Doing that will also include all the gems that are dependency of it
and also will require newer versions of other gems that could be
fulfilled by that dependency.

A sane approach will be use bundler:

http://gembundler.com/

And explicitly indicate version 0.10.2 for dm-core gem, that will
resolve the other dependencies automatically and lock your environment
to that version.

I know, version management sucks.
