Hello everyone, The Trivedi Center for Political Data <http://tcpd.ashoka.edu.in> at Ashoka University near Delhi is a research center that gathers, cleans and disseminates data about Indian political processes. For example, we are building high-quality datasets on Indian elections, the careers of bureaucrats, etc. Our overall goal is to enable informed debate and data based research.
We are looking for talented programmers and data analysts to work at our center -- either as full time or part-time employees, or as volunteers. The work involves building interesting tools for data management, cleaning, and analysis. Some of the skills we are looking for are: - Building tools for various processes (typically in one of Java/Python, web technologies, etc). For example, we have ongoing projects to build tools for approximate Indian name matching and visualizing Indian elections. - Data analysis and management with R (and shiny) - Web scraping - Data management, entity resolution and merging, and data cleaning in general - GIS tools and file formats (ArcGIS/QGIS) - Optional - NLP / Machine Learning - Optional We also have a project to build tools to increase transparency in city works. All our work and software is open source and in the public domain. We work closely with researchers in other countries, and there will be an opportunity to publish papers for those interested in research publications. Anyone interested? Please write to me or to Gilles Verniers, co-directors of the center.
