Great start Thej. While working on a story with Newslaundry, I stumbled upon https://github.com/gggodhwani/indian_village_boundaries/tree/master/statewise. I am particularly interested in Haryana Village level shapefiles, but I am not sure the shapefiles in the repo are in concordance with 2011 census data. I have a small python script to get this data to geojson, if further investigation is required.
