We will introduce OpenStreetMap, do some mapping together, and showcase its
uses like the Overpass Turbo API.
The Saturday event will have more time to do more hands-on mapping
activities.

We can also use help of volunteers at either of the events, just for basic
guidance to first time mappers.

Dear friends,
As supporters of open data and researchers in public policy you will be
excited to know that 'State of the Map - Asia <http://stateofthemap.asia/>'
*(SOTM)* the largest annual conference in Asia is being held in Bangalore
in November, 2018. At this conference we will discuss developments,
challenges, learn from each other and celebrate many years of volunteers
building Open Street Map <https://www.openstreetmap.org/> *(OSM)*, the
world's largest open geospatial dataset. We, the Datameet community in Pune
are holding two mapping events prior to SOTM where new and experienced
mappers are all welcome. Please find details below.

*26th October (4.30 to 6.30pm) *: Gokhale Institute

The main topics covered in the sessions will be as follows
- An understanding of the OSM community (size, vision, function etc)
- Applicability to researchers, planners and economists
- QnA of the data problems participants face and possible solutions to
their problems
- the actual hands-on OSM workshop

roads, hamlets, dugwells or trees in urban areas are shown at the link below
