I have a setup for a very large collection with a near real-time feed and multiple search engines. I have begun to describe it in the Wiki at: http://www.dataparksearch.org/wiki/index.php/Scaling In order to get around the problems of having all the things well co-ordinated I have a set of scripts (mix of bash and python) that ensure that most of the configurtation is created using some simple template files and also manage the various machines so that stuff is in sync.
