You mentioned that you wished for "The ability to place readable comments in the reports which do not affect output". Since your meaningful output is done to a file and presumably no one sees what goes to the screen when the report is running, have you considered using the following to annotate your reports? ---Turn File Off--- This is a comment ... ---Turn File On--- You could even bold or underline the comment text so that it would stand out colorwise from the rest of the report text when you're editing the report.
