Victor, It sounds like you're wanting to use the full name (Smith, John James) to link on, but then in the second panel you're wanting to change the contents of the linked field. If so, wouldn't that break the link?
I think you need to have a matching field in both panels that holds the full name. Then in your second panel, separate out your last name, first name fields, etc. with the subfield[] formula. i.e.: P1F1 contains Smith, John James. P2F1 also contains Smith, John James (created through link from P1) P2F2 has formula: subfield[P2F1;",";1] to get the last name only P2F3 has another formula to extract the first name It sounds from your description like you're linking P1F1 directly to P2F2 and then trying to manipulate P2F2's contents. I don't think that's going to be very successful. Or maybe I've just misunderstood your description.
