Dear all,

I agree, the Brother 2040 is a Windows GDI printer that normally cannot
print directly to dos. It does not help to do it over the network as the
printer still cannot translate the string sent from DP. But, a brief
search on the net led me to this discussion list. I have not perused it
in any detail at all, but it seems there may be a roundabout way to do
it.

Good luck

PS: Incidentally, when using WP systems I always purchase Postscript
compatible printers. They always seem to work through Dos, at least from
WP. I have no experience with DPSPOOL. I discontinues printing directly
from DP long ago as for my purposes it was simpler and cleaner to run
the DP report file through WP 51. or even import it into Word.

Malkie: Yes, he's right. You can't print directly from a DOS app to
the HL 2040 since it doesn't support the PCL printer
language. (Brother includes support for PCL in the next model up,
the HL 2070N.) HOWEVER... DP can print to the HL 2040 if you use
Tim Rude's DPSPOOL program (available free at www.dataperfect.nl).
