Hi Tom

It's been a long time since you helped me, and a business between; but I
have been silently following the discussion group and using their help to
continue.

"or alternatively, that they have run into same problem I am facing."

Yes, I think I had a similar problem but in another configuration.
Background: I am integrating my SIS: Sales Information System DP into the
freeform database AskSam. The changes that Lew made as a command line
database hit the target and make DP very useful as data processor and
storage. AskSam will function as menu and it calls DP panels and reports to
complement the freeform text formats of AskSam.

Problem: I am work on W98 on a standalone machine. AskSam has a a program
executor or launcher. It launches WORD or any other Windows program fine.
But it would not execute a DP database. At first as in your case, it would
change directories but did not see the DP database name and open the .STR
file. I got farther by picking the directory and folder with the search
button. I could not simply write the command line instructions to change the
directory and open the application, but had to physically pick the db
folder.
Then it opened the application in the application directory but would not
open the database in the folder. No matter what I tried DP would not execute
as the other programs did.

Having followed the excellant treatment from Brian on his web based db, I
put the command line options into a batch file. The executor now launches or
excutes the batch file and DP loads the db. Here is the batch file to load
the DP application: C:\d0000\dp C:\d0000\kunden23\kunden23 where
C:\d0000\kunden23\kunden23 is
the location of the DP database and name. C:\d0000\dp executes DP as you
know. You could open a batch file on the network that loads the
database. I followed Brian's instructions that are part of the discussion
group messages.

Good Luck- Gary

current folder? IS DP actually opening in the folder you expect? When you
select 2 - Change Directory from the opening DP screen is it the directory
you expect? Can you place the STR on a local drive and start DP from the
network location and change directory to that local folder and then open the
STR? Can you do visa versa. ie start DP from a local folder, and change
Directory to a Network directory to load an STR?

it was in 8.3 format... It could be that the WP files are in a folder in

with a long file name somewhere in the path... This of course is only a
problem if the create long is turned off... on either the server or the
Vista machine...

caching...

Now weather the client is connecting with IP or IPX does not really matter.
I have avoided vista so far so I do not no if Novell has made a client for
vista. I do know that sense Netware 5.1 connectivity by IP has been possible
and with 6.0 and 6.5 you have to check a box in order to use IPX.

but not run or write to the drive. Would it make any difference if you ran
dp locally or can you? Does vista have a firewall stopping you?

novell are not compatible with Vista generally but here is a work around. I
guess that is not going to happen. In fact, I came to the conclusion only
because of postings I found that you also found and forwarded.
