Thanks to everyone for their advice but I have one more query: does anyone have any knowledge or experience of SQLite and/or Adobe AIR?

Thanks Don! I wish I had time to be more active. DataPerfect is still the database I use at home. I love it. Here is a little more information on Remedy. Remedy is owned by BMC. It has to us Oracle, MSSQL type databases as it's backend. However, you do all the design visually in the admin program. You can then use the Remedy User client to work your application or use a web browser. At work I've been using this program for the last eight years. It has it's good side and it's bad side. If I was forced to move from DataPerfect this would be what I would use. Take care, Rick

There is also a very nice DataPerfect like program called Remedy.
You might want to take a look at.

You might want to seriously consider FilemakerPro.
