Hi Michael,
Just as an alternative if you do not get a satisfactory response... My
understanding is that you are sending out a form letter with a table of
rates, and the table of rates changes frequently so you are storing it in a
secondary file? right? If the rate indeed do not change very often, it
might be easier to put them in a table in a separate document and instead of
changing the data file, Nest Primary to bring in the standard set of
data.... Just a thought, there might be many factors to make that
impractical...
Regards
Brian

Hi Brian,
Thanks for your suggestions. WP universe seems promising at the moment
whereas I got no replies at all from the newsgroup.
I haven't tried this with earlier versions of WordPerfect as I've only
just decided to "simplify" things - the merge worked fine before, in fact
the early part of the merge still works as does the nested data merge, but
it fails to return to the main data source after the nested data fields. I
don't see a command anywhere to tell it to do this but then it is supposed
not to need it!

Michael

Hi Michael,
I have not used WP X3, and I have generally avoided the Nest Data (or
Nest Secondary) merge command.
Don's suggestion of WPUniverse is a very good one, I have not lurked
there for a while but when I was active I found it very useful.
In the meantime.
- Has this combination without changes worked in previous versions of
WordPerfect?
- Have you tried merging just with the nested data (secondary) file, just
to see that it works ok?
I found after WP version 11 that some of the the more complex merges I
was performing stopped workings quite the same. The same basic set of
merge documents had worked in all previous Windows versions (and even
generally in WP5.1 for DOS), but once WP got to version 12, very strange
problems would occur, some of the problems were not always repeatable, eg
randomly, half of a graphic would not render; or the merge would
terminate after a several nest primary commands. Corel support even back
then was useless. My client has tried various later versions of WP, and
has returned to WP11.

Subject: [Dataperf] Slightly off subject
This may not directly be a DataPerfect question but I wonder if someone
might point me in the right direction - I have tried WordPerfect
technical support which seems next to useless here in UK with the free
support not able to answer a "how to" question and "Premium" paid for
support not returning calls 48 hours after contact was made! Corel email
support repeatedly tells me to contact my local telephone support!!
After running various DataPerfect reports and tidying them up in
WordPerfect X3 I run a number of merges to produce Advertiser Renewals,
Invoices & Subscription Renewal letters ; these work fine, however the
form files I use include a table of costs for the various advert formats
which change from time to time. Rather than changing the form files
every time, I thought it worth running another DataPerfect report to
create a merge data file of the advertising rates. Within the forms I
have added a NESTDATA command just before the table and inserted fields
from the new advertising rates data file. On running the merge, the
original data is merged up to the NESTDATA command, the advertising
rates are merged correctly but after that, the merge fails to return to
the main data file and I get blanks where fields should have been
inserted.
Can anyone help with this at all please?
Thanks,
Michael
