G'day Charles,

Thanks for your thoughts, Australia is a big place so I am about 500 miles
from where it has all occurred, however everyone here is saddened by the
huge toll on lives and serious injuries. They are predicting the death toll
to be over 200, with 5000 people homeless and up to 800 houses destroyed,
and the fire is not yet full contained..

For a large number of Australians it did not come as a surprise, when you
have had the sort of heat wave conditions they had there of ten consecutive
days over 40+C each day, one was nearly 47C) then add this to a drought
which has lasted years, and add a touch of our native gums trees with all
their eucalyptus oils its like a bomb waiting to go off. The really
disheartening thing is that they are pretty sure the fire were deliberately
lit. Every time we have a heat wave there is some idiot who want to see what
happens if they put a match (and perhaps a gallon of gasoline) into a
forest.

We had a minor bushfire in Sydney last Thursday, we also had about 40C heat,
(about 110F) and ultra low humitidy, and they have arrested a 31 years old
man who lit 5 separate fires with accelerant in the National Park only about
3 miles from where I live.

If Don is reading this, do not be worried about coming to Sydney, its all
good.Temperatures have eased and we even had a few spits of rain today.

Thanks

Brian

With the horrific wildfires in Australia, I'm wondering if Brian Hancock and
any other Australian DP users here are OK.
