Hi Ed,

It is quite a paradigm shift, you have to make all the logic and user
interface elements as part of the client program, and DP just becomes a
backend repository and data processing middleware. The major benefit is the
reliability, performance, and ease of panel and report design in DP.
Although generally I use it through web where I use HTML, Flash or Flex
clients; I have also used it with a VB front end on a desktop to mesh some
dissimilar systems together

Bye
Brian

Hi Brian,

This is an interesting idea from you. Using solely the reports to interact
with DP.

But what if you have several fields to complete before the record is saved,
and the user made a data entry error in a previous field, how do you return
to that field to make the corrections? Doesn't the user have to cycle
through the report, and then run the report again or an editing report to
make the correction? Or do you have a more elegant and efficient solution?

And what about field search in a linked panel?

Ed.

Hi Malkie,

Regrettably no... I forget that people stil interact with DP via panels,
this is only a solution for reports. Interactive with DP by reports is
liberating... so in a panel you are still need to use the nested complex
formulae, to the depth that you expect will cover all circumstances.

When you interact with DP via reports such as, but not limited to, using the
web you find many of the limitations of DP totally disappear.

Regards
Brian

Hi Brian;

Thanks for your lengthy explanation. Just one question. I would need
a formula for extracting the last word in the panel itself not in a
report. Can this be done in a simple way without cases?
