Pat,

Thx for responding.

I have a set of problems with the application.

I need a game plan.

Critical processing data and customer information are in an unsupported data
base system. A handful of crude reports are all that are available. It
runs in DOS (I think). There is no easy inquiry or report writer. It is
difficult to get information out of the system. I have no idea how to
upgrade it or whether it's worth trying. If we extract the data will it be
just a bunch of unstructured data? Or, will we be able to identify the
datat with fields and record layouts?

If we were to port it to a new software platform, which one? How would I
select the platform? Who would handle the data transfer and get to the
functionality we need?

What are your thoughts? How would you propose to work on a project like
this?

Regards,

Jim

Our company has a 12 year old application written in DataPerfect Rev 2.6F.

The application supports production control, receiving, shipping and
traveler creation for our processes.

The functionality is limited. And the structure of the data base is unknown
to us.

We need to either upgrade the application and get it into a version of
DataPerfect that is currently supported.

Or, extract the data in a structured format to be ported into a new system
to be identified or built.

I would be interested in corresponding with qualified individuals who would
have an interest in consulting on this problem.
