I presume you mean XP Mode under Windows 7. This is simply a virtual machine running in a limited free version of VirtualPC, there should be no reason you cannot run DP under XP Mode. [ If you happen to be talking about the various Windows version compatibility switches you can use under Windows 7; They make no difference under Windows 7 64-bit... you still cannot run DP even if you choose Win95 compatibility. ] I have not, personally, tried the limited version of VirtualPC because I mainly use VMware Workstation here - and for years I have run various versions of Windows as virtual machines. DP runs fine (as well as it does normally) under these virtual machines. www.vmware.com I have also, in the past, used VirtualBox open-source edition. www.virtualbox.org It is very good and freely available. VMware has a performance and feature edge but there is not much to complain about with VirtualBox v3. Both VMware and VirtualBox have Linux versions that work very well - although I had some SMP issues with 32bit guests over a 64bit host. >From everything I have read and heard, MS VirtualPC is a capable product too... just not as flexible; not as broad host and guest support - if you are going to run into problems with legacy software it seems more likely under VirtualPC, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Virtual_PC and note the features "removed" from the latest version. I have not tried DOSbox (see Pat Riley's post) so cannot compare how well it works compared to full virtual machines (if anyone has such a comparison it would be good to hear). I suspect/suggest that if "plain" DP is all you need then you may be well served by DOSbox, however if you have come to rely on DP mixed with other software a full VM may be your answer. In theory you can create virtual machines (guests) that simply run DOS... but in practice you are likely to want to create a supported Windows guest (Windows 95 or later) so that you can install the additional virtual machine software that makes the guest behave more conveniently (and perform better) inside the host computer.
