Hi Rick and Don,

Sorry, but I don't remember this either.

Don, I assume that you have found the error description:

*Error 154 *- *Attempt to read block 0 as text. *
The file DataPerfect is trying to read is corrupt or not a valid format.
Restore from backup. If there is no backup, try deleting the .IND file,
exporting all data, deleting panel files and .TXX file, importing data.

Since this began while editing a report, it is probably the structure file
which is damaged. The best recovery is to restore from your latest backup.
If that is not possible, there may be other alternatives.

Hopefully the damage is contained in the report area and you can get a
smaller structure file created without any reports, to allow you access to
the data itself.

There are two or three different ways to do that.

1. If someone can remember the option to DPExp to export all but reports...
2. Use of the STE-MGR.COM program should produce a file with extension .{L}
that can be imported as a t-log into the STE-BASE database (these files are
included in later DP releases, and Brian Hancock has released an updated
version described at
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg00965.html )
3. Use of the METADXP.COM program should produce a file with extension .{X}
that can be imported as a t-log into the METAD database (these files are
available at http://www.sanbachs.net/firestorm/download.html ). It is a part
of firestorm and is described in part 1 of
http://www.sanbachs.net/firestorm/usage.html ). Ignore the part about pba.c
and look for a report in METAD that generates an STE file.

Options 1 and 3 should get you an STE file for everything except reports
(and except the current values of auto incrementing fields) and you could
use DPIMP to get a basic STR file that would allow you access to your data.
Option 2 might also be able to generate an STE file, but I don't know this.
In any case it could get you complete documentation; enough to rebuild a
basic STR file.

All three of these programs read the structure file using the same Forth
code, and so they will probably all work or none of them work. There was
once a different program that read the structure file, to export reports,
but I can't put my hands on it immediately. If you need something like that,
please let me know and I will dig deeper.

Best wishes,
Bruce
