The numeric value of the date field is equal to the number of days from the
earliest admissible date, March 2, 1900 - where the G value of the date =
1.

The highest acceptable date in DP is Dec 31, 2078 - with the value
of 65,319, somewhat less than 2**16  (65,536) - so in theory. the highest
date could have been August 7, 2079. I suppose there is a good reason for
that, Lew.
