RESOLUTION:
I switched to TAME5.0 and the load time problems seem to have gone away.
I had to add
/SpoolPrint = off
to one to the .TAM files so that I wouldn't have the printer config
reset in the middle of a job.
I fixed the display problem by changing the "screen buffer size" and
"window size" in properties for the shortcut to the batch file that
launched DataPerfect. I also had to change the shortcut to run as
"Normal Window" instead of "Maximized".
Hopefully that will be all the tweaks I need. Will run for a while
and find out.

Hi Bob,
My initial feeling is that you may well have more success with XP
using TAME 5.0. I could not get NT/Citrix running on Tame ver 6.
When I was looking to upgrade OS to either server 2003 or 2008 I
could not get Tame to run with 2008 at all and so op'd to go for
Server 2003. Tame 6.00 runs really great on 2003 with none of the
problems you are experiencing. The tame versions appear to be
upgraded to fix issues with the operating systems of the day. I
think 5.00 is probably more aligned to XP. I certainly have
experienced issues when the match isn't right although not the exact
same ones you have been finding.

Colin

Subject: [Dataperf] Tame and load times
I am just playing with installing TAME and I am seeing some
inconsistent behavior. Any guidance on where to look would be appreciated.
Problem 1 - slow loading
Many times, when I launch DP, it comes up with entire application
loaded in a couple seconds. I am loading DP26YU.exe, if that matters.
However, there are other times when it partially loads and the
displays a background color with a blinking cursor for 30 to 90
seconds. When I look at the open files list on the servers, the .
STR and 3 .TMP files are open, but nothing else. The various db
files (.IND, .TXX) do not show in the list of open files until the
app loads, so I infer there is either a problem loading them or
something before loading them and after loading the .STR
file. Eventually, it may load or I may have to exit out 1 step
and get back in to get it to load.
When I try several times running, it will load normally for a few
times, then take a long time to load on a subsequent run. In the
last 5 minutes, I have seen load times be 2, 30 and 90 seconds,
with no apparent variation in server load. I am not having the
same problem with other computers on the same network. Does anyone
have any insight on where to look at this ?
Problem 2 - Display
When I access at the computer remotely, the application looks
normal. When I talk with the user, she often sees it display with
the DataPerfect app in the top half of the window and black space
in the bottom half. If I go in remotely to the same session using
window Remote Desktop, I don't see the black space problem. After
I have load the app and am in, she doesn't see the black space either.
I tried to look at the screen remotely using TeamViewer, but it
wouldn't display the dataperfect app when she loads it. If I load
it using RDP, then activate TeamViewer, it works fine.
