Our Health Center database, which for 8 years ran on a pure-DOS
networked system, was forced to move to a networked 64bit
Windows 8 system that the Municipality installed (for other
purposes).

Today we are in a celebrating mood, because yesterday afternoon
our database began to run on the first five Win8 machines, and
it seems to be fine! (There may be a few things left to adjust,
such as accented letters in our native language, Portuguese.)

Now to your question.

After a fellow volunteer did the Windows part of establishing
the network share, the only thing I had to do was to edit two
lines of the autoexec.txt file that comes with vDos.

First change
------------

    Change the line: CD DPTEST
    to: CD MY_FOLDER

where MY_FOLDER is the folder where you placed your
    database.

Second change
-------------

Jos placed the dp.exe and dp.sys files in the same "DPTEST"
test directory of the sample database. You may leave dp.exe
and dp.sys there if you want. In that case,

    Change the line: DP26YI /s
    to: ..\DPTEST\DP26YI /s

The two dots are to exit from MY_FOLDER where the first
    changed line took you.

If you place dp.exe and dp.sys elsewhere, change the line
    accordingly.

That's all I remember doing. Maybe my fellow volunteer did
something else, but I don't think so.

Regards,

Marcos
