Don,
There is a 32-bit flavor of Windows 10 (both Pro and Home). You're
limited to about 3 1/2 GB of RAM but it works just fine. I've been able
to successfully run DP under it without VDOS. DPSpool works too. The
first time I tried to run DP under Win10-32, it had to install NTVDM
which just took a few seconds. Then it was good to go.

I still use DP for my election-related work that involves fairly large
databases. I have kept a couple of boxes that are running VISTA and
handle DP perfectly. I have another box and a laptop that run Win7
which works but is problematic in that I lose the use of the DOS
window after running reports or imports (these are large reports that
may look at many thousands of records, small reports looking at
limited numbers of records generally stay active). This only means
that I have to exit the DOS window and re-enter the database. The
report and import will run its course even after the window becomes
inaccessible.
Now I want to equip a Win10 laptop to run DP so I can work on the road
a bit better than I have been able to. Would a dual-boot system
perhaps work for me where I boot to either VISTA or Win7? And if the
machine is 64-bit does that screw it up altogether for that purpose?
I use and appreciate VDOS. Unfortunately, there's something inherent
in either DP or VDOS that makes reports and imports run slowly. Way,
way, way too slowly. Beautifully and dependably but slowly, many times
what the same report or import would run in a DOS box.
Just checking. Have to figure something out here.
