Thank you so much for a really good explanation. I was under the impression that Win had discontinued the 32-bit cmd. I looked into VDOS for this purpose. I'm gathering at some point - they added it. Do you know if its possible to use WP Shell? How is printing compared with Win XP
Can you talk about your cloning method? Are you virtualizing with hyperdrive? Thank you again ________________________________ From: Dataperf <[email protected]> on behalf of Mark Nepon <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 27, 2019 5:58 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Dataperf] DP with win10 64 bit I have replaced all computers (over 30) from WinXP, Win7 and Win8 to Win10 32 bit system. Most were 32 bit system and this was maintained when installing Win10. In the newer computers that come with win10 installed it is the 64bit OS which has a different CMD program. The WIN10-32BIT OS has the same CMD as XP and works exactly the same way as DOS used to work. In cmos or "set up utility" or "Setup" whatever it's called nowadays (when booting up press esc or f1 or f2 or del or F10 or f12 ALL DEPENDANT ON COMPUTER MAKER) This opens up cmos or cmos "look a like" you must disable UEFI anywhere you see it , you must disable secure boot, you may need to exit and re-enter after disabling secure boot, to continue with the changes. In Boot Configuration you want to "Launch CSM." Once done you will be able to install Win10 32 bit system in a 64bit computer. I have done this to several different makes of computer and youtube is a great source of info for disabling UEFI allowing you to change operating system from whatever is on to WIN10 32 bit. Once installed you need to create icon to open CMD. right click select properties select "use legacy console." you will be prompted to install "NTVDM. " once done all icons to open dos 16bit programs will inherit these 2 things and your computer will operate just as it did on WinXP. Networking is faster. I have 15 computers on a network al 32 bit win10. all can access my Linux server (ubuntu) at same time. I was using WinXP server until 2 years ago when it started kicking out computers due to too many computers accessing the server at same time. One of the neatest things about this setup. You can create a clone of the hard drive once Win10 is working perfectly. This hard drive can be put in any computer (with EUFI disable and other set up options mentioned above) It will load and install all devices and programs just like on the cloned computer. You will need to supply new win10 32 bit key to activate but it will work with all programs working. This has saved a lot of time. I have one computer just cloning it's drive onto new ones to be used in a new computer. I purchase another win10 key and MS office key and i'm in business. The time spent to learn and do this process has well been made up by this ease of preparing computers. mark From: Dataperf <[email protected]> on behalf of Chris Pedersen <[email protected]> Sent: March 27, 2019 12:17 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Dataperf] DP with win10 64 bit Wait.. can you comment on both of these: Win10 has a 32 bit version where dos works same as in Windows XP. You can adjust cmos (adjust UEF) to load 32 bit OS in many computers (particularly older ones 2 years or more.) Are you saying that you can load Win32 directly under UEF? Are you saying you need to play with UEF to load WinXP? ________________________________ From: Dataperf <[email protected]> on behalf of Mark Nepon <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 27, 2019 12:08 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Dataperf] DP with win10 64 bit Win10 has a 32 bit version where dos works same as in Windows XP. Does DP (under WP SHELL with global macros) work on vDos, Win10, 64 bit? Any suggestions on best autoexec.bat config? Long live DP! -- Jon Ong
