Hi Juan, That isn't really a workaround, it is the way you are supposed to import things these days. The functionality for NAMESPACE files etc changed a while ago with one of the version releases of R (I think it was something like 2.13, but don't quote me). If you import it via a namespace it should work fine.
BTW, if you are developing a package, I highly recommend using Hadley Wickham's devtools package.
