Summary
The Senior Web Designer must be an independent, self-motivated, creative
professional, with proven editorial design experience. The Senior Web
Designer will report to the AARP Digital Strategy Operations Design
Director, and will be in daily collaboration with the staff producing the
aarp website. The Senior Web Designer will create prototypes for development
of new web projects, functional requirements for content, and occasionally
manage external design and development vendors. The Senior Web Designer is
also responsible for production of a variety of infographics to help
visually explain editorial content. This is an active hands-on role which
includes advancing the AARP brand, and providing some design support for
marketing initiatives. We are looking for someone who is creative, has a
passion for design, and is eager to push the boundaries.
Responsibilities
Produce strong, practical design solutions shown through clean, thorough
mock-ups.
Develop dynamic prototypes, refined design screens and final graphic assets.
Demonstrate a keen eye for detail in production.
Design a wide range of online projects including editorial, marketing and
content partnership initiatives.
Work independently as well as in cross-functional groups.
Work closely with the development team.
Manage multiple projects.
Be familiar with content management systems.
Understand a user-centered design process.
Understand and have perspective on social media trends and technologies.
Experience
Outstanding design talent and creativity.
6+ years of designing consumer focused rich media web and/or application UI
Strong communications and organizational skills with an ability to thrive in
a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in HTML, DHTML and CSS.
Demonstrate high proficiency in leading design tools such as Flash,
Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.
BA/MA in graphic design or related design discipline.
