Although my publisher firmly believes I am writing a book, I spent most of this weekend writing modules in the Date:: namespace, working through several that I have been meaning to do for a while. Date::Passover calculates the dates for Passover and Rosh Hashanah. Date::GoldenNumber (currently included in the Date::Passover distribution) calculates the golden number for a given year - an important number used in a variety of other date calculations. Date::SundayLetter calculates the Sunday letter for a particular year. (The simplified version is that this represents the number of days from January 1 until the first Sunday of the year. It's actually a little more interesting than that.) Date::Chinese, although it is destined for better things, currently tells you what animal this year is. You probably know what that means if you've ever looked at your placemat in a Chinese restaurant. Eventually, this will do more interesting things, like tell you when New Year is, and do actual conversions from a Gregorian date to the full Chinese date. Unicode assistance requested. -- HTML Writers Guild training classes http://www.hwg.org/services/classes/
