I think the constructor should (at least optionally) take named parameters, especially given that your 3rd parameter defaults to undef, which is just a little weird. Named parameters have a number of advantages:

Don't thank me, I stole it from Dave's DateTime module! I was getting in a mess early on trying to parse named parameters when I thought .. how does he do it?
