The other way round, actually. The calendar has to correspond to the current common calendar, and I want to display the corresponding Hebrew dates, too. I may just wind up using libhdate:

(which has Perl bindings) because it also gives me the parasha (weekly readings) and sundown times for free. I just wanted to keep an open mind as to whether DateTime had some specific benefit to this project.
