Stop and restart XMail and then telnet to its port 110 issuing these commands :
USER full-email-address
PASS pop3-password
Look at the response You'll get from the PASS command ( be sure to type case
sensitive password ).
If the response is an error that means that You did something wrong when
You created the accounts, retry.
If the response is OK that means that You've a problem with Your mail reader.
